William S. Becker
William S. Becker, 81, of Laureldale, passed away Thursday July 17, 2014 in the Reading Hospital.
He was the husband of Joan P. (Bankes) Becker.
Born in Reading, He was the son of the late William J. W. and Agnes V. (Wengert) Becker.
William was a 1950 graduate of Reading Senior High School and served his country from 1952 to 1956 in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
He was a 1959 graduate of Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute. William also took teacher certification courses with Temple University and Penn State, Berks campus. He became the welding instructor at Berks County Vocational Technical Institute, East from 1968 to 1989, which is now Berks Career Technical Center. He also was employed by Welding & Thermal Tech Inc. in Sinking Spring and as a price checker for SuperValu.
William was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Reading. He served on church council, as treasurer of the festival committee, financial secretary, and for over 30 years was the church van driver.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Timothy W. Becker and wife Judy L. (Cochran), of Muhlenberg Township, Peter D. Becker and wife Lora E. (Ulrich), of Bernville, Andrew A. Becker and wife Sandy K. (Benninger), of Mohrsville, and brother, Malcolm C. Becker of Laureldale. He is also survived by grandchildren Jon and wife Caitlan, Ashley, Elaine, David, Sara and husband Zachary, Lauren, Kevin and wife Christine, Erin and husband Billy, Nathaniel, Christopher, Tyler, Connor, Austin, Amber and 6 great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2014 in St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 449 N. 9th St. Reading, Pa 19601 at 3:00 p.m. with visitation time beginning at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Henninger Funeral Home Inc., Reading, is in charge of arrangements.
