Martha Reile
Martha Margarete Reile, 94, formerly of Wyomissing, died Monday, July 21, 2014 at Manor Care, Sinking Spring, where she had resided for four and a half years. She was the wife of Walter Reile, deceased in 1999. Martha was born in Schleusingen, Germany, on October 11, 1919, daughter of Gustave and Berta Toepfer. She is survived by daughters Christel Reile (Battle Creek, MI), Irene Redner, wife of Raymond Redner (Morgantown, PA), and Doris Logan, wife of Robert Logan (Mohnton, PA), as well as her sister-in-law, Marta Friedrich. She has six grandchildren, Susan Ash, Marilou Roe, Marc Calicchio, Lisa Tallman, Jason Logan, and Jennifer Logan, and seven great-grandchildren.
Her strength of spirit and quality of character shone throughout her life, from her travel out of Germany with her young children in the midst of war to her success in America, teaching herself English and running a successful business at Brookside Lodge in New York.
Martha was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, loving her family unconditionally and placing their needs above her own. Her continual advice was to love each other.
Martha was a wonderful cook; her food was a gift to others. Though she passed on her recipes, her secret ingredients surely remained hidden, as they never tasted quite the same as when she made them.
God has her in his keeping; we have her in our hearts. Funeral services will be private.
