Rose Sarachek, 95, formerly of Reading, PA, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2014, at the Jewish Home of Greater Harrisburg.
Rose was born in Poland and became a U.S. citizen in 1927. Her father died when she was young, leaving her mother to raise Rose and her seven brothers and sisters in Reading, PA, through the Great Depression.
Rose received her baccalaureate education at what was then Kutztown State Teachers College and graduated with her Master of Arts degree in Education from the Pennsylvania State University.
She taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades in the Reading School District until her retirement from Thomas F. Ford Elementary School in 1980.
She loved traveling, teaching, Philadelphia sports, and children.
In 2004, Rose moved to the Jewish Home of Greater Harrisburg to be closer to her beloved family. She remained there until her death on Friday.
She is survived by her brother, Morris Sarachek; her nieces and nephews: Debra Kornblatt, Judson and Seth Fink, Judy Kargher, Elliot Shear, Lisa Petkun, and Dorian Brown, and decades of children who called her "their favorite teacher."
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2014 at Henninger Funeral Home, 229 North 5th St., Reading, PA 19601. Interment will be at Kesher Zion Cemetery.
